Christmas time’s a comin’ so, that means that the 22nd. Annual San Bernard River Christmas Boat Parade and Home Decorating Contest is, too!

On Saturday, Dec. 13, the annual boat parade will begin at the F.M. 521 Bridge and spread Christmas cheer all the way down to High Five Bar and Grill, where the judges will be stationed. The boats will be judged in three categories: 17’ and under, 17’1"- 24’, and 24’1" and over. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd plaques will be awarded in each category. The parade will begin at dusk, and there is no entry fee.

If you live on the river, show your Christmas spirit and decorate your house for the decorating contest! Light it up on Friday evening, Dec. 12 for the photographer to take pictures. The judging will be Saturday night, Dec. 13. Don’t forget to light up those houses both evenings! Houses are placed in two categories: 100’ river frontage and under and 101’ river frontage and over. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place plaques will be awarded in each category, and again -- no entry fee is required. You may enter your home if you live between F.M. 521 Bridge and High Five Bar and Grill, which is the parade route.

An awards dinner, when the winners will be announced, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 14 at noon at the home of Nelson and Vanessa Taylor (2909 CR 604). Barbecue with all the trimmings will be served for each entry and their decorating crew.

If you are interested in entering your boat or house, you’re invited to attend a Captain’s meeting at Dido’s Restaurant on Dec. 11 at 7 p.m., or for more information contact Nelson or Vanessa at (979) 964-4402. However, if you simply want to sit back and enjoy the parade with your friends and family, bring your lawn chairs to one of the following viewing areas: McNeil boat ramp (FM 521), Dido’s Restaurant, High Five Bar & Grill, the Churchill boat ramp (FM 2611), or the F.O.R. Community Center where you can have your picture taken with Santa.
