Goals

F. O. R. SAN BERNARD

Why the F.O.R. Organization formed & it’s Fundamentals

·    The organization originally formed to have more credibility; benefit from the collective experiences, skills and ideas of its members and be more effective by increasing community awareness of issues important to the group, leveraging financial, human and material resources to move the group’s vision, mission, goals, objectives and activities forward and finally to generate broad-based community support and recognition for group activities.

·         F.O.R.’s Fundamentals:

Ø  Develop an active, open, effective, long-term organization devoted to restoring, protecting and promoting the San Bernard River to ensure it stays clean, healthy and free-flowing so present and future generations will love and enjoy this river as much as we do

Ø  Invite all interested people to join and support the organization (if you want to be a member, you are a member)

Ø  Learn the issues associated with the San Bernard River

Ø  Effectively communicate to members of the F.O.R., our neighbors and elected officials

Ø  Establish contacts to promote and support river functions and the organization

Ø  Learn the talents available to the organization and it’s members interests

Ø  Elect a Board of Directors

Ø  100% volunteer organization

Ø  No dues

Board of Director Responsibilities includes:

·    Provide continuity for the organization by setting a structure that supports the organization’s mission and purpose

·     Govern the organization by board policies

·     Select the Executive Committee (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer)

·     Select a three member Management Committee that affirms the organization is adhering to the organization’s by-laws and draft policies when requested that are approved by the board

·      Select a Nominating Committee that will oversee the annual election of new board members (typically chaired by retiring board members and selected volunteers)

·      Establish committees, elect leader(s) for each committee, monitor their programs and services through participation (each board member should serve on at least one committee)

·      Manage resources effectively: Fiduciary responsibility for the organization through budgets and generally acceptable accounting principles as well as asset management

·      Enhance the organization’s public image

·      Serve as the organization’s Court of Appeals
